Pea question for a freind

A friend of mine has planted peas that had been growing but she keeps finding the plants have been stripped to the stalk but the leaves are being left on the ground? She lives next to allotments so I suggested it could be mice or birds? she is going to net the peas. Any ideas what it could be?

Sounds like pigeons or other birds to me 

She thought that or moles didn't think it would be moles though.

Probably pigeons. They snatch mouthfulls of leaf and if any bits drop they do not bother to pick them up. Leaves left on the plants  look as if bits have been chopped out, which of course they have
