Firstly - I planted some swiss chard outside, germinated lovely and then the birds (I think the birds as some pulled up and no slimy trails) woofed it!
Planned to replant and cover, but wondered if I could bring them on in seed trays/pots first? Only have two very short rows as its my "try something for the first time crop" and am limited on space.

Secondly - Beetroot! Personally think it is poison in disguise however the wife loves it, a friend gave me a packet of free seeds (boltardy) and I was wondering if it could be grown in pots/tubs as I have planned use for all the ground and don't want a huge amount? (Plus the thought of giving up space to it hurts me!  )

That is exactly how I grow both of these crops,  In plastic machine coffee cups with a hole burned in the bottom.  I'd give it a second shot.

What you may think are single beetroot seeds are actually a cluster so you may get multiple sprouting.   Madda Jaffray has a magic recipe for beet, in a creamy curry sauce. Excellent as a side dish to a curry.   Cheers,   Tony.
