Parsnips and BFB
« on: April 12, 2011, 22:12 »
I have the Parsnips in toilet rolls

The bed has NOT been manured since winter last year (17 months ago)

Do I need to add Blood/Fish/Bone ?

Or do I just let nature take its course

Thanks in advance for any replies:)

I personally think too much is made about not manuring parsnip beds. I manure mine every year and rarely get hairy or  forked parsnips. Hitting stones or obstacles within the soil does that.

Yes, you can add BFB to your soil before planting as the soil still needs some feeding.

Agree with Trillium. I grow all my snips in containers as I have quite stony soil and I use a home-made compost with added BFB. Parsnips are like any other plant and need nutrients to grow.
