As a new hen keeper i need advise one of my hens has just started laying and just laid one coverd in blood i checked her vent it had some blood residue on it its only her fifth egg and they are small should i worry any advise thankyou Brickwood

I would be inclined to say its nothing to worry about since it sounds like she's only just started to lay. When my Silkie/Sussex first started to lay her eggs were often smeared with blood. Keep an eye on her just in case though.

clean any blood off your chicken as the other chickens may peck at her as they go mad for blood

hello my araucana laid eggs with blood on when she first started to lay in feb but she now gives me three good clean blue eggs a week so i wouldnt worry too much just make sure shes blood free and enjoy your eggs

my brahma bantam did this.  she laid one with a bit of blood on, and then another with LOTS of blood on.  Then layed one in the run.  She only laid three, and then died    I think it was from the shock though, she had a bit of an ordeal with one of the others. very upsetting   

hope she gets better, I'm sure its just as she's getting into it 

PS. Im not trying to worry you, just keep an eye on her
