Tomato disaster!!!
« on: April 07, 2011, 10:38 »
Sowed my tomato seed in an unheated greenhouse on March 21st and still no sign of any germination. So I guess the lesson is to put them somewhere warmer to speed germination? I've done some more today and these will be kept in the office where it's warmer.
Growing salad leaves isn't rocket science.

Yep - somewhere around 15 deg or warmer will get them going really quickly too!

Or buy some plants (or just part of what you need) from Garden Centre if you feel yours will be a bit late?

They may still come up, they just take longer when it's cooler ;)

Don't despair just yet: I sowed mine in an unheated greenhouse on 20th March, and some of them just came up a few days ago - the Tumbling Toms and the Sungold. No sign of the Roma yet, though.

see how they are when it's planting out time, before you decide it was a good move.........things can still go wrong.
Fingers crossed for you though ;)

Planted mine last Saturday , pot in a plastic bag on the upstairs shower room window sill over a radiator and 50% were through this morning (Thurs) interesting that 2 year out of date seed has germinated before the newer seed. :)

Start `em warm. ;)

My January sowings are also about a foot and a half tall and showing signs of flowering! Worthy experiment in my opinion! My Early march sowings are about 5inch tall and some black krim sown on monday are just coming through. I always start off in the airing cupboard.

I wouldn`t put them anywhere in the dark, you`re sure to forget to keep checking on them. A sunny windowsill in a warm room would be ideal.
I`m left handed, what`s your excuse?
