Japanese Wineberry

Like a lot of people I love growing soft fruits.
I bought a japanese wineberry last year and planted it alongside my small toolshed on the plot - despite my waterings...it died after initially appearing to flourish.
:-(
Can anyone help with the best way to grow this fruit?
