You sure on that point? I ask because growing them in guttering is common, which has to be fairly high on the root-disturbance-scale :) when planting out?

The guttering approach shouldn't disturb the roots when planting out - you just dig a trench the size / shape of the guttering, and slide the peas / compost out wholesale.  Root disturbance occurs more frequently when you have to separate plants and thus break intertwined roots, or with root crops which just don't like it at all.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
