Blood smears on egg
« on: April 02, 2011, 09:22 »
This morning one of the RIRs laid an egg that had a few little smears of blood on it.  This has never happened before.  Is this normal or should I be concerned?  She seems absolutely fine but then I know that chickens are very good at masking illness.  Many thanks for any help or advice from members of the forum.

(Added later)  I've just had a closer look.  She has been pecked close to her vent and that is where the blood came from.  I have doused her bottom with wound powder.

keep a close eye on here and if necessary disguise any redness with gentian violet (purple spray)  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.
