Tete -a -Tete bulbs
« on: April 01, 2011, 12:33 »
Because my garden is very small, I planted the pots of dafs straight into the ground.  I have just dead-headed them, and shall lift them out of the ground soon  -  BUT what do I do with them then.  I am not very good with bulbs, so any advice will be good.  Thanks,  Mrs Bouquet

My Mum had a very small garden, and we planted her bulbs in those baskets you use for pond plants, and when they stopped flowering, dead headed and lifted the baskets and put the whole basket in a plastic plant trough, with a layer of compost on the bottom, fed them and put them behind the shed till planting time. They lived in the baskets forfive years before she moved. You can split them after a few years if you need to. :)

You need to deadhead the spent flower but let the leaves die off on their own. They still build necessary food for the bulbs. Otherwise, you'll find the bulbs dead within a few years.
