Hi everyone.
Back from my winter slumber of which I have been busy on the plot.
Decided to grow the real macoy to make wine instead of last years successful foray into the world of country wines.
Have planted 25 vines of Seyval Blanc.
A question to anyone about preventing powdery mildew as i've been advised that I will need to spray.
What measures can one take and I don't mean the pint of gold top one..?
Is wettable sulphur aa legal one? Anything else?
Hope all is ok for everyone plus everyone must have seen a least 1 Waxwing this winter.

Don't know the answers but would recommend the book 'Growing Vines to make Wines' - sadly have leant my copy to someone (but can't remember who it was!).  I do remember that it was very informative, although I never got round to planting the vines so will be interested to hear how you get on.

I find most of the mildews happen when either the plant gets too dried out (cracked soil) or they're too close together with little room for air flow. Grapes also hate to stand in water so if you can avoid these simple problems, you should be well ahead.

I spent ages on the plot making sure the soil had good drainage and the vines are well spaced out ish.
Hoping in 4 yrs to be tasting Chateu Le Turktown.......bit of history thrown in there for you radio 4 listeners.
