Good work andy

Dunno about mares tail but that bindweed is going to need a lot of watching.   What's next?   I suggest you rotovate repeatedly at 3 or 4 week intervals otherwise you'll have x100 the amount of bindweed you started with

It would also be a good time to rotovate manure into the soil.  I assume you won't be planting anything until Spring?

Manure can go everywhere except where you plan to grow carrot / parsnip.

just been on the plot again, i had run the rotavator across it on monday today alsorts of things were statring to show there heads so i went up and down the plot pulling up what i found mainly bits of grass and docks all had little or no root and with the soil been so light they all came up fine. to finish off i put the rotavator across again so the plan is to go and do the same again on sunday, i did notice when i was pulling the roots up how warm the soil was so this may be helping the roots grow so making it easy for me to find them

Good going Andy keep rotavating every week or so and you'll soon have a weed free plot. And yes your right about the warm soil making things grow quicker.

Glad to hear a likeminded opinion.I started with my allotment in late June and I am working my way round it in exactly the same way......digging and weeding, having first covered with black plastic.I felt I wanted to "get to know" my plot and certainly didn't want to zap it with weed killer!!!
