Newly Constructed Run
« on: March 30, 2011, 19:12 »
We have five chickens, three since November and two since january. They had the free run of the garden but the wife wanted part of her garden back so as a compromoise I sectioned off part the garden. Just took these photos now. What do you think  :)

Some good work there - not everyone wants their entire garden turned into a mudbath!!  Now you can grow greens (and weeds) for your girls which they won't be able to reach until you "harvest" them..

Wildfowler

One question .........  Have you placed any chicken wire on the trellis ?

Just thought it would addmore security as im sure a fox could snap those sections of wood

3 girls .............very addictive these girls are becoming

Hi Wildfowler, that's a great area you have for your chooks, but like ODB, I would be concerned about the fact that it looks like an easy dinner for foxes/badgers who would get into that fairly easily.  Do you have any way of protecting your girls a bit more?

Hi. Thanks for the replies. I have put about 2 ft of galvanised mesh around the fencing otherwise the. My plan is to completely cover the whole pen area but not sure yet what to cover it with. I agree regarding it being easy for a fox to get in but it is a work in progress. They used to have th free run of the garden which made them more exposed . We do have foxes around here but no badgers. I lock them up before dark and let them out when light each day
