Sharks Fin Melon
« on: March 30, 2011, 09:46 »
Hooray, I have found some of those elusive SFM seeds from the 'Grow Your Own' fillum - I only have 5 mind, so will be sowing them very carefully today and looking after them as my own children

I'll keep you up to date with my progress.

Looking forward to making 'wonderous soup'!  :D

Maybe still a bit early for them  perhaps save a couple of seed for sowing later just incase ;)

*update*

4 of my 5 seeds have sprouted and all have their first true leaf growing - I'm so pleased!  :D

I am really looking after them carefully and am starting to deliberate whether to plant them in or outside.  I may split the difference and put 2 in the poly and 2 in the garden.

I'm sure you've thought of this but make sure you save some seed from the fruits.

I'm not able to load photos onto my comp at the moment so you will just have to take my word that they are doing quite well!

I have planted 2 in my polytunnel and 2 outside as an experiment to see if there is any difference in growth and crop (let's hope they DO crop!).

More soon  :)

Update; well, the plants in the polytunnel are by far doing better, they are really starting to scramble around the ground and up the cucumber supports - the ones outside are slower and not so well developed.

There is a little melon fruit on an inside plant, about the size of a 50p piece, how exciting!!

As soon as we get our new little camera/video thingy from Amazon, I'll try and get a pic loaded up.  :)
