Asparagus bed, type of sand/ prep?

Asparagus bed, type of sand/ prep?

Hi all,

I am finally getting round to building an asparagus bed. I am going to build a raised bed to allow for good drainage. Do I need to add sand to the soil (currently clay soil), if so what type? Should I do anything else?
