I have been given a potato growing sack. Can you recommend a potato suited for its use?

any type of salad or new potatoes seem to do best...But to be honest you can just bang your fav in there

Put 3"of compost on bottom add 3 or 4 spuds put another 3" on top .when the shoots appear add another 3" but dont cover shoots. continue til bag full and you should have a bimper crop.

Or if you like the excitement of not knowing... leave two or three smallest ones from a shop bought bag of tatties to sprout and bung them in (technique as above) - in 2010 I was very pleasantly surprised with how successful (and productive) that method was, albeit in the black flower tubs rather than grow sacks which should work even better.

At the risk of promoting a deluge of "I prefer ..." I would suggest Charlotte. Its one of the most popular varieties, grows well in bags, and is a second early - so will only be about 12 weeks from plant-to-harvest

Plant first earlies so you get an early crop that will be blight free.
