Trouble with geese
« on: March 23, 2011, 13:34 »
I have 2 geese, she has just started to lay and overnight the pair have become really nasty. They have a 100m enclosure and charge me from one end to the other, they knocked me of my feet yesterday so now I am really scared. My husband thinks they will calm down when she hatches her young but I am not sure.any advice would be great

That explains why goose eggs were £2 each at the local market, they want danger money !

I hope they calm down soon.

I'd have a read of my goose thread

I think it's a hormonal thing atm. One tip I managed to find was to grab them by the neck just below the beak, keeping them at arms length & lifting them slightly off the ground. I know it sounds harsh & I am yet to try it myself. I will try anything to stop my Brendan attacking my hubby atm. I know what you're going through. Unless you get them to realise you're top dog they will bully you. Even more when the little ones are here. I'm trying everything I can.

dont take no strong arm stuff from them ., get a bit of plyboard about 2ft sq/ cut a handle hold in one side about 1.1/2 inches from the edge just to fit your hand in comfy . when the gander comes at you wave the board at him  and make your self look BIGGGGG . run at him instaed of the other way round .. we have had a couple of stroppy ganders and they dont get away with it here  if they persist ... its the pot  8)
still alive /............
