Disabled tools??
« on: March 21, 2011, 12:20 »
Hi everyone
I have not been on for a few months, but now spring is here time to get going!
Sadly, I had some devastating news over the winter. I have arthritis in both hips and my lower spine. (waiting to see surgeon)
My problem is theres quite a bit off digging over to be done in my flower beds and veggie patch. Are there any good alternatives to the fork and spade that requires no bending?
I do remember seeing adverts a few years back for this claw looking thing but i cant seem to find anything apart from one which was cheap anf had bad reviews.
Any ideas?
Love me, love my veggies

Thanks Praxxus
Yes, thats the kind of thing I mean, but on my search i discovered that those cheap ones are of little use as the prongs twist and bend very quickly.
I am sure i saw some in B&Q a few years ago that were sturdy good quality, but when i did a search online they dont seem to stock them now.

I believe it was on QVC some years ago, I'm sure the name began with 'W' and were very well recommended. I cant think of where to look at the moment, will google again later on.

Sorry to hear your problems Dotty; arthritis is a curse! Hopefully you will get replacement hips which are hugely successful.

The claw is a great idea so do hope you manage some planting done this year ....... and good luck with the surgeon.  :)

I have limited mobility so I dont dig, I just grow in manure or I use a cordless drill with a very wide flat bit to plant in things like Sweetcorn.

Thanks Thrift. I am only 47yrs old. This makes me feel about 90! But I am not giving in to it.

What ingenuity NASH! I shall remember that

I'm sure I've seen people using the Wolf hand tool attachments (hand fork, trowel etc) on the long Wolf handle to do delicate jobs standing up

I wonder if they are the only company doing this stuff. I cant seem to find any, but I shall definitely try to look in shops to see if Wolf is sold in store
