Why is it that a goat skin rug continually  shed it`s `fur` until thrown away because it was killed at the wrong phase of the moon?
That beans sown at the wrong phase of the moon were attacked by a grub which left holes in the dried beans? (didn`t happen if sown at the correct moon phase)...in Italy
Just two of Old Wives Tales that proved to be true!

Who knows? all part of life's rich tapestry I suppose, like rubbing raw meat on a wart, or talking/playing music to your plants to make them grow better, threatening them also works " you better flower this year or I dig you up" seems to work consistently well for me

When the Vikings first arrived in Greenland one whos nick name meant "his bum is in butter" boasted that grapes where growing there.
This was not taken seriously until recently when remains were found.
So whats all this talk about Global warming

Seriously, MK you really ought to write a book. In fact, you very nearly have by the look if it.

Talking of which, it may be a bit dated but Supernature by Lyall Watson is worth having a look at. You'll all be making cardboard pyramids to keep your shears sharp in no time!

We got very cross with a ceanothus a few weeks ago, told it that it would have to go if it didn't put a spurt on - and lo and behold it has cleared the fence!

I didn't mean to upset you Biscombe,  I'm sorry if I did, but joking about things is often a good way of making a very serious comment about something.

In this case global warming will affect the lives of us all.  We should all be doing as much as we can to slow it down.  But what hope when "Western" countries will be able to buy carbon emissions rights from poorer countries.  The "West" should be taking the lead rather than copping out.

Scribbler

I do this each spring with a certain climbing rose 'if you dont start looking better you go' and lo and behold it pulls its socks up.

A rather pesky agapanthus also had a talking to and decided to flower after 3 years - albeit white rather than the blue it was supposed to but I blame the shop for that.

Wonder if a stern word with my apricot tree will encourage fruiting next year?
