« on: March 19, 2011, 19:02 »
Hi,i planted a couple of rows of feltham first today.Do you think they'll do o.k?
Have read somewhere that they're supposed to be sown in autumn.
Cheers/ :)

They'll be fine, mine will go in soon.

I'd recommend protecting them from pigeons as they start shooting through - netting, wire etc
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

We're doing peas, too. Some will go out this week, but I've also got a few in pots as extras in case the pigeons come when I'm out!  maybe worth having a back-up plan..

Feltham First are a variety that can be sown over winter, not should. In my opinion it's not worth the extra effort involved in nursing them over that period.

Personally I am holding on a week or two until the ground warms up a little.

As for netting, I net them the instant they go in, using well pegged down debris netting. This helps keeps mice out as well as pigeons.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Hiya,I'm on the coast so it's quite mild here but i've got some seeds left incase they're a no show.re the netting...i've got some chicken wire to put across when this rain stops but do i make it into a cloche shape with the ends covered too.
Sorry if it sounds a stupid question but it's in my garden not on a plot so i've no one to advise/show me apart from you lovely lot.  :)
Also,is there a gardening book for complete numpties? ;)
