BIG egg!!

BIG egg!!

Wow! went out to get our daily ration of eggs from the 2 chooks,one was regular size and the other was HUGE! I even weighed it was about a third heavier than normal,just cracked it open for my supper and it had two yolks! yum yum! :)

sadly whilst you may like double yolkers they are not good for the hen - the size can cause problems and also the chicken is using up it's egg resources quicker.

I've had two doubles from my 4 hens and I only got them 6 days ago. Does it mean they have any problems or is it normal, just like giving birth to twins?

often when a chicken first starts to lay they can lay double and even triple yolked but usually they settle down within a couple of weeks.
