not me!
Digging in compost made them find my soil all on their own :)

You can buy them to start wormeries though.

Yep, red, brandling, lob, lug, and rag. Spent a fortune on `em for fishing over the years. :)

If you want them for a compost heap they will turn up of their own accord eventually.
If you cannot wait a small tub of brandlings from a fishing tackle shop will get you started without breaking the bank. :)

I bought some when I first bought my can of worms and I looked on line to buy more this week for my new "darlek" but they want £37.50 for 1kg.  So I will just wait for them to find the compost in the darlek now.

I think £37.50 for worms if outragous.  How much veg could I grow for that!!

If you know someone who already has an established Compost Heap perhaps you could have some of them!. No, I have never bought worms.

If you can get a bag of manure, just pile it on some bare earth and they'll find it all on their own.

We have lots in our wormery.  The first box was damaged so it was returned sans worms, and a new box arrived with a second dose!  They were rather keen to explore their surroundings, but soon learned where the food was.  They now breed and we have zillions of 'em.  Also, in the garden the worms are doing well.  Just put some stuff out for them to eat and they'll find you, I expect.  Or maybe ask for a few from another lottie holder?  You could put them in a tub with some soil and food and a cloth lid, so they don't escape, but the air can get in.... just an idea.

I understand what SwingSwang means. I have never had problems with lack of worms. The raised beds were heaving with them after a year (great...very little digging necessary)and I even get them in my pots!
Must be doing something right!
I suppose if your growing soil has been under concrete, is incredibly dry/hard clay or been polluted in some way in the past there may well be a dearth of worms. However, digging in homemade compost, and/or any well-rotted manure or leaf mould to build up the humus content should attract them in time.

I would never buy worms for the garden, if the conditions are right they will move in by themselves.
If the conditions are not right you are wasting money buying them.
I thought my plot might have lost a lot of worms to the hens but far from it, using a bulb planter the other day i was getting 3-5 worms every planter full. :)

Worm breeders can only make a profit because compost type worms breed fast, why buy a kilo when 50g from a neighbours heap will do the trick. ;)

I havent bought worms, but since they're fairly essential, I'm not sure why anyone cant get any shouldnt.
Just make sure you change whatever drove the last lot off.
We use chemicals in this garden, just as god intended
