Root veg & mushroom compost
« on: March 13, 2011, 20:53 »
I turned my plot into raised beds last year but for onr reason or another i never got round to filling them. I can get about 3 ton of spent mushroom compost delivered for £65 and have read thats its a good soil conditioner but as its spent it doesnt have much nutritional value.
Will it be ok to plant my carrots etc in beds that have been topped up with it.

many thanks, Chappers

I manure my carrot beds and never have problems with them, so spent mushroom compost would be quite good. I know many wouldn't dare manure carrots, but that soil needs feeding as well. It's mostly rocks and in-ground debris that causes most forking.
