Hello all,

I'm back on this brilliant site after a wee while. I am making up some window boxes this year and am after a bit of advice.
I have decided to order mixed trailing geranium plug plants for the boxes. I am unsure how many to order, can anyone advice how many plugs to a certain area? I really have no idea and don't want to end up with too many!

It depends on how big your window boxes are

You can pack them in quite close if needs be, if you ended up with too many. If you space them out though and they look a bit sparse you could always use something else in the gaps

consider how big they will be when fully grown rather than the size of plug plants, and consider if you need two or three deep (depending on the depth of the box) I would plant them 6 inches apart, more closely and the air cant circulate and you will get powdery mildew

Thanks for the help. my window boxes are 60cm x 20cm. I have jumbo plug plants arriving (geraniums) next month, can't wait to arrive home to the colour in summer! I'll plant them 6 inches apart then and if I do have gaps then I can put some herbs in. Cheers again
