Has anyone grown Wasabi?

As a new member of the allotment community, I'm hoping someone out there can help me!

I'm a big fan of Wasabi (Wasabia Japonica) as a food and, having recently got our first allotment, I was keen to try growing it.

Having searched all over the internet, however, I've found some contradictory information; various sites say it's fairly easy to grow in a shady, damp soil, others that it will only grow in a japanese mountain stream!

More practically, however, I've been completely unable to source any seeds, rhizomes or seedlings anywhere.

Can anyone shed any light?
