Lilac from seed....seems tricky....is it?
« on: March 12, 2011, 17:16 »
I've bought some lilac seeds and it has basic instructions with them, needing to put them in the fridge for 60 days and then to put them under lights. What type of lights do they mean??  Would the greenhouse be warm enough? I am a COMPLETE novice when it comes to gardening....never had a garden until last May, so please excuse me having no idea. Think 'Topsy and Tim Go Gardening'....thats abouth the level I am at the moment ;) xx
Many pets, a bloke and 2 kids....help!!!

You're the first person I've heard of who's trying to grow lilac from seed. Usually it's by cuttings or from root suckers.

Under lights means the special spectrum Grow Lights for veg and flowers. Those are particularly handy if you start a lot of veg and flower seeds in spring, but pricey just for a few lilacs. By the time yours germinate, you can probably plant them outside anyway.
