first of all for me it is pinching the tops off broad beans ,  i do this when they are starting to set beans .     this helps stop black fly.
and then tomato plants when they reach the seventh truss  and thats it for me.
when im with my 9yr old she's the sensible one

pinch tops off sweetpeas to make more stems grow. My Dad always did this with runner beans as well, so I do it too :)

We pinch out runner and french beans when they hit the top of the canes, otherwise they become a top heavy tangled mess.

Greenhouse tomatoes we do after the sixth truss, third or fourth truss if they are a big tomato variety.
Outdoor toms we do after the fouth truss, unless they are a 'tumbling' variety.

We also 'top out' the top of our  summer raspberry canes when they hit the top of the fence they are growing up against between us and our neighbours ( Garden plot).

Unless otherwise stated it can be assumed ALL posts are by Pa Snip

I never have had to pinch the tops of broad beans. I companion plant with borage, which bees also love. !!
