Crumbly black rotted down horse manure...
« on: March 07, 2011, 21:07 »
...is something I've just found out I have access to if I want it at no cost.  However, I have a feeling now is not the best time to start spreading it over beds as it's getting warmer.  Am I right about this?

Or... can it simply be used as fertiliser to turn into soil to aid growth when I start planting out in 2 or 3 months?

Thoughts anyone?

If it is well rotted you can put some under your spuds, or fork it into the beds soon.
If you're not sure keep it in heaps/bins until the autumn, to make sure it's there for you when you want to use it ;)

Two thoughts:

1) If it's getting warmer where you are I'm going to the estate agents tomorrow!

2) Sounds like you've got the perfect soil conditioner at the perfect price ( :)); if it really is well rotted it's probably best to lightly fork it in now as there isn't that much time left to let the worms do it for you before you start planting.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older
