digging implement

sorry to bring this up again as I know its been on threads before, but I cant find it.

Any way Im lloking for the name of the digging implement which has a strange name and it is a cross between an axe and a spade and its good for getting roots out.

Please can some one tell me again what its called so I can go and buy one this time.

Or if you are from the British Isles its a digging hoe.

..or perhaps a mattock?  (Although the mattock of course tends to have the additional 'pick' spike useful for loosening the concrete-like soil first).
