Squash varieties
« on: March 01, 2011, 13:56 »
Can anyone recommend a variety that is more likely to succeed in the cooler Scottish climate.  I am sure Realfood mentioned one last year but I can't find it or the bit of paper I wrote it on.   ???

I grew some very successful ones from seeds saved last year from standard orange supermarket pumpkins (I don't know the variety). :D I'm going for a couple of proper bought varieties this year though, Crown Prince and Turk's Turban.

I thought realfood had a website, but the mention of his name might bring him along to answer your query... :)

I think Hunter is reputed to be "early"? I grew CobNut last year, alongside the no-name one I usually grow (and which doesn't mature until the end of September). CobNut were ready in August, so I suspect that is relatively fast too.

Realfood mentions a squash in this thread, is it the one you were thinking of?

Many thanks MoS - I did have a look at older threads but couldn't find it.

If you go to realfood's webpage, you will see the results of my Winter squash trials over the last few years.
