I agree Do not Rotovate! My plot was similar last year. My advice is divide the plot into 3 sections. Cover the 1st section with black plastic, tarpauline or similar and leave for neext year. This will see of most weeds. The 2nd section work over the entire year digging out roots and general tidying. The 3rd section put most of this years hard effort into, digging it over, getting all the weeds and root systems out and getting some return from maybe planting potatoes or other easy veg. This will keep your interest going. I think if you try and do it all at once. It will seem to be too much and very easy to give it all up. Slowly slowly catchy monkey as the old saying goes. Good luck and happy growing.  :)

Make sure you know your local site's / council's rules on bonfires.  Some ban them altogether.  If near houses, you can also get letters from environmental health if the smoke causes a nuisance.  If the stuff being burnt still has some moisture in it, then that is quite likely to happen.
