i saw an advert on a local website that offered a free chick 3 weeks old.  It was on offer because it was supposed to be a duckling LOL

I called and went to collect it and its an arucuna chick that can go in with my light sussex chicks but a couple of the ducklings had splayed legs which the woman didnt know how to/want to deal with so we ended up bringing them home as well as another duckling.

Now wifey gave explicit instructions that we were not to bring back ducklings before we left but...she had gone to bed with a migrane before we left but I sort of "forgot" that once we were there  

*!!!!  Still wifey smiled when she woke up and I explained the poor little things couldnt be left behind

BUT I know this will cost me!!

What are you going to do with the wonky leg ducklings Min.  Can you fix them

Honestly I dont know what to do with their legs bless them.  They are getting around fine and eating and drinking ok so I will keep an eye on them. 

Better to have a sporting chance than no chance at all!

Min.... if they have splayed legs you need to tape them... they wont get better on their own.... they will just get worse and worse as the ducklings get heavier

If you tape them now it may help but the damage may already be too great if they are older than a few days

They are doing much better already which is good.  I will get them sorted and back to health then pass them onto some new owners (perhaps  )

Oh good - is the leg taping working?  I would find it hard to walk away and leave them but would have been scared of what to do to make them better.  Pass them on - yeah whatever  What do we all bet they end up staying

I would love to keep them but they are such messy things!  We may end up with the little yellow one whos quite limpy but in an ideal world they will have to go to new peoples. 

Theres no way I could have walked away from them especially when the poor woman didnt have a clue how to help them and looked horrified at the prospect of maybe they may need culling but I dont mind helping out but again I cant end up with every waif and stray from the area living here!!!

Just best to give the poor things a sporting chance eh!

Oh and a friend called this morning and asked if I could take on a trio of Turkeys!!!  Errr nope (I wanted to but I have the pens all set now for my chicks and pending two Serama hens for George!)
