Cat or dog flea drops
« on: February 24, 2011, 21:28 »
I need to put flea drops on my girls, i thought it was cat drops you used but i was talking to a lady the other day who thought it was dog drops as the make up is slightly different.

Could anyone clarify.  Im hoping its cat as i already have some of those.........is it just a couple of drops per girl?  Oh and is their any egg withdrawl needed

Cheers

It doesn't actually matter, both have different ingredients because permethrin is toxic to cats (but not chooks).

It is dosed by weight, so you can either get one pipette for a "medium" dog, and dose all of your girls - one drop at atime) or buy 4 pipettes for "tiny" dogs/pups and use one pipette each (ensuring the concentration is equal)

BTW, chickens tend NOT to get fleas! And you shouldn't treat prophylactically for lice.

Frontline isn't licensed for chooks, so most vets would advise a 30 day egg withdrawal (some would say 7).

Don't treat them unless you've actually seen fleas on them

Mine have never had fleas either, so it's not a matter of routine.
