« on: February 22, 2011, 16:33 »
Both my silkies are sat tight in the nestboxes.I've read some older posts on here but still a bit unsure what to do.Should i just kick them out and lock them out of their coop during the day? What if they want to lay?Could anyone give me some advice please?  :)

Silkies are famous for being broody most of the time.

They make very good mothers if you want to put some eggs under them.

I'd love to but housing is a bit of an issue at the mo and i'm new at this so i suppose i shouldn't run before i can walk.  ;)
Just as a matter of interest, can two mums share accomodation with their chicks?

I use the cage method, I find 48 hours usually does the trick, later on they will sit on duck eggs for us. They are so delightful I forgive them this!

My Silkie x's will quite happily sit on nothing anywhere.  I block off the nest box and they will sit on house floor and refuse to move.  Block off house and they will sit under it and refuse to move.  They have even settled in the snow.  They are so desperate they don't seem to care  :D Silly Girls  :D
