hi i'm a newby at this growing veg lark and have just got a allotment,can anyone tell me what this is,some people say flower to deter pests  :unsure:or maybe a fruit of some sort.any ideas welcome.oh and the user name i have is spot on :lol:i cant walk past and not buy.thanks

The buds remind me of a young cherry tree. Its tough to tell when its not in leaf yet.

Definitely a currant and I think big bud mite.

Brush against this shrub and see if it has a strong 'curranty' smell.  If it does it is a black currant and it is infected with big bud mite.  Pick off all the round swollen buds and see if the plant crops this year.  If it does not, it also has a virus and must go.

nice pun i like it :D will take them off and see what happens,i did'nt want to pull it up till i knew what it was,iv'e already dug up some rhubarb and had to re plant it :blush:thanks all for your expert help i will be picking your brains again soon i expect
