How warm is too warm?
« on: February 16, 2011, 19:19 »
Hi all, i have managed to accumulate a few greenhouse heaters in the last few weeks, and have sown tomatoes on the windowsill. I have a small 6x2 greenhouse that i am to use for starting off seeds. For plants such as tomatoes, peppers, chillies etc, which like a warm long growing season, what is the warmest they can cope with? i will need to leave the heater on in the greenhbouse due to work, and due to possible frosts at night dont want to risk turning them off.

If you're thinking about this time of year, don't worry. I get concerned if it's heading towards triple figures!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Keep them as warm as i can to get them growing strongly, and make sure they are hardened off well then?

If they're staying in the greenhouse, they won't want hardening off.

Minimum temperature of 10C to keep them growing (so rather more than "frost free")
