Help!!! Hatching Problem?
« on: February 13, 2011, 20:57 »
Hi,
Hatching right now- literally. Had one hatch and it is still attatched to the shell- there is a strand of stuff sticking it to the shell.  Anthing I can do or is it ok?  Cheeping lots and moving around.  Only one as all the other eggs were infertile! (They were a friends eggs- this was the only one of my araucanas that I put in!)
Thanks soooo much

How long has it been hatched out? what does the strand of stuff look like that is stuck to the shell?
What colour is the little araucana and don't forget the photo  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.

been hatched an hour now.  Basically like a thin strand of yellow, really thin.  Thought maybe it was the remains of the yolk?  Lavender Araucana, piccys soon Joy!

Don't try to pull the strand off, I've had it on occasions, the chick pulls the bit of leftover shell around for a while, but it usually comes off on its own, reminds me of the umbilical cord.

If it stays on for a long time, then perhaps just snip it off like they do the umbilical?
