Hi,

My Brussels and Broccoli are very poor and some have bolted and others have 'clubroot'.
A fellow Plotter said that I need to Lime my soil for Brassicas.
What does he mean? Is Lime expensive? When should I apply it?
Should I even apply Lime to Brasssicas?

Limes cheap enough, yes brassicas need lime, best applied over winter, will also help a clay soil become more workable, try to get it from your allotment society shop if they have one it will be cheaper there.

for brassicas ,put 2oz the square yard for the first year and then 1 oz every third year . dont prelime any ground you intend to grow spuds on as this encourages scabs to form on them , if you limed brassica ground last year you can grow spuds this year use a 3 yr rotation system for growing on your plot and you cant go wrong
