Never don it myself but the info I had suggested it was pretty much the  same as other domestic breeeds.

Also jealous that your ducks are laying!
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

But I had read they were difficult for some reason.... maybe cos they are so small??

WOW! I'll have the emu if you don't want it ! Been far to long since I managed to freak out my other half into a complete tail spin but I bet an emu would do it. :tongue2:

Nor entirely sure how the neghbours (or the ducks for that matter) would take it

I did once want rheas as they have such lovely eyes with long eye lashes but then kept having visions of Bernie Clifton and that soon put me off the idea  ::)

I reckon an emu egg in the incubator would send even the most chicken/duck weary OH into shock

I'm getting my new coop on Wednesday so mine is already rolling his eyes over what we get next

Hi Chookie, I haven't had any personal experience, but apparantly they can be hard to hatch because of their short bill.  Many need assistance after pipping internally even.

Just had a look in my duck book and there are pages and pages relating to incubation. It's very clear and well written. I've put a link below and it might be worth you trying to track down a copy. Amazon seems a little pricy but you may be able to find it cheaper.

If you don't feel it's worth purchasing if you let me know slightly more detailed questions I'll have a look for you.

Orchardlady..... must admit not really keen to buy any books as ducks are really not my thing at all.... lovely but all mud and poo!!  I am hatching for a friend....

The answer I am after is why are they difficult.... and why cant I treat them like chicken eggs??

Assuming its all down to humidity at the end maybe??

And I certainly will post pics if the emu hatches Jinty :)  Just you try and stop me :)

If you would like to PM me your address I'll photocopy the chapter for you and post it to you. There's all sorts about humidity, position etc.
