I usually cheat big-time by buying puree'd garlic in a tube, but my neighbours gave me a couple of bulbs of Spanish-grown garlic before going away so I put them in the fridge for a week before planting them out.

As usual they've got two choices () but I don't expect to be chucking the puree away anytime soon!

(Hope someone remembers this thread later in the season to compare notes because there are seemingly many different ways of trying to achieving the right result.)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

according to Tozer seeds

Quote
Solent Wight 3 Bulbs for Planting.

An improved selection of Solent Wight, producing larger quality bulbs than many will have thought possible to grow. The best keeping garlic. Long keeping to March and beyond next year. An aroma and bouquet without compare - real length and strength. Suitable for planting from October to March.

So just get them in soon

The people that actually supply them say December/January is the best!

http://www.thegarlicfarm.co.uk/Solent-Wight-Seed-x-3-Bulbs-0B6E4CC85B.aspx

They do? ...

"Mid July Harvest,. Autumn and spring planting though early spring is best."

and two paragraphs later

"December / January planting best but will crop well from end of March planting."

In the linked PDF file it says "Plant September to March"

Doesn't instil much confidence if they haven't proof read their site ...

Confused - you will be

For anyone venturing to their local garden centre for garlic bulbs, there are 2 separate deliveries of garlic into garden centres each year.  The autumn planting stuff comes in with the overwintering onions in July/Aug and the spring stuff (different varieties) comes in around end Jan/early Feb.

Any left from last autumn will be well past it now so check it's the fresh drop before you part with your dosh.  If it's old stuff from last year change your garden centre  ;)
