my Christmas Box has no scent!

my Christmas Box has no scent!

I bought a sarcococca humilis from J Parker for £1 a few years ago - I know, I know. And it has flowered every January since. There's never a scent! Am I doing something wrong or have I been sold a dud?

I can't see you have done anything wrong. There is more than one variety of sarcocca and I'm not sure if they all have scent - google it and see. It could also be that you just can't smell it, like how roses smell different to one person than to another; also, maybe they only smell during a particular time of day??

thank you. Update! I picked a few of the flowers this afternoon and there is a faint scent. Perhaps I expected too much. I was hoping for a scent as strong as a daphne or a wintersweet but maybe it's more subtle than that?

some flower scents are free to the air, and waft about.
Some you have to get your nose into and sniff, sounds as if your plant is one of those  :D

I bought one last year, I expected more scent as well, there are different varieties, GQT did a section with an 'expert' who said one was stronger than the other. maybe ours just need to grow up and get more flowers on  :)

I bought two plants of "confusa" last year and they're growing well in big pots outside the door. They must be 18" already.
I have had lots of flowers for a month or more now and the perfume is heavenly, although you only get whiffs unless you get close.
