Organic Feed & Pest Deterrant
« on: August 06, 2007, 22:52 »
Guys

Looking for some advice. In my first year of my allotment, and would like to keep it organic.

Many people on the allotment are telling me I need to add some plant food when I am planting, and my harvest will be bigger and better. They recommend Growmore, but I would like an organic equivilent

I have looked for some organic feed and am interested in this:

and to control the slugs, I was thinking of this as it has no chemicals:

Does anyone have any opinions? or any better suggestions?

Thanks

Ren

Hi, I haven't tried either but would be interested to hear how you get on (getting a bit late to be feeding most things, I'd have thought).  Also, I'd reckon chicken manure + seaweed would be fairly fast release.

I concentrate on feeding the soil rather than feeding the plant.  I use manure + compost + manure + comfrey + manure + manure + manure.  The only plants I really feed are tomatoes (comfrey liquid).

Try coffee grounds as a slug deterrent (free of charge from Starbucks).
