Hi

Sub arctic plenty, late to ripen, poor taste.

Grew Roma a few years back, grew like weeds, lots of small toms. O/H liked them, I don't eat tom's !  :)

I'm growing Koralik this year and am disappointed to hear the bad feedback on that

It's mostly a matter of personal taste. You might enjoy them.

As for Romas, I grow them strictly for saucing, not fresh eating, though they're okay, just not the tastiest. They're not meant to be since they're drier for saucing so you can flavour the sauce yourself.

No moneymaker for me either, or Gardener's Delight, bit bored of both.

Not doing black russian this year - were very disappointing, tasteless and watery. Also given up on garden pearl, not bad flavour wise but not a patch on some of the other cherry tomatoes. I do have a really interesting Latvian variety to try this year though.

Not doing Moneymaker again... bland bland bland.

I did like the Russian Black, Black Krim, Paul Robeson and Roma, which are all being grown again this year.. along with about 20 other varieties  :D I don't mind low yields from the odd plant... in the interests of variety.
Roma are strictly for cooking in my house.

I've had similar issues as savbo with San Marzano but not giving up on them yet. I shall not be beat!

wont be doing any moneymakers you get great yeild but they are almost tasteless, also wont be trying roma again as the yeild was poor last time and the growing season in the cold north east doesnt lend itself to them in my opinion. shirleys, sungold, gardeners delight all the way for me  :)

Well, that's 8 specific nos to Moneymaker and it's bland taste.

So why did it do so well in the polls last year? I was suprised to see it so highly placed at the time.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I think it's a variety that a lot of people grow when first growing tomatoes, because of the descriptions of reliableness and huge yields... and they are impressed with it because they've nothing else to compare it with.

I could easily have asked the question "what are your 2 favourite and your 2 least favourite tomato varieties" but would I have got at least twice as many responses?

Worth thinking about, but it's not all down to me!  ;)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Also growing Marmande, Cuer de bleu (italian variety) and the classic Sungold.

I've been growing tomatoes for over 40 years. This year I've gone high-tech and used a clear supermarket meat tray instead of a plastic bag. Never found the need for a propagator.

I don't even know any suppliers here for propagators. I simply put my pan of tom seeds on top of the fridge, or in a warm sunny window (where my cat can't knock it over). Have done this for many years with fine results.

I am not growing costoluto fiorentino. I grew it out side on a nice sheltered south facing wall last year and i found the yeild poor, alhtough i will admit the fruit was tasty. However they are so ireggularlry shaped that it makes them difficult to handle. Don't get me wrong, i don't want perfect shaped fruits but they were just too ireggular. Not growing Roma either, found the plants difficult to manage whether pinched out or not. Am growing San Marzano this year instead for paste and Marmande for Beef toms.
