Iam getting my chooks this weekend  my run will be on my patio , was thinking about putting leaves on the floor of it will this be ok to do thanks

Do you mean dead ones?  My hens love to scratch though a pile of leafmould, with all of the bugs and critters which live in it

last Autumn when their run was looking a little muddy, I collected 8 bin liners worth of dead leaves and put them in a big pile in the run. They went bananas and absolutely loved it. It kept them occupied for days looking for bugs and scratching around. Go for it, only be careful that you don't pick any poisonous leaves or needles - yew, rhodadendron etc.

My hen run has 40 feet of 8ft high beech hedge along one side. They get leaves whether they like it or not!! and they love it. I sweep up leaves from the rest of the hedge (another 100+ feet of it) and put them in the run too. It's easily the best way to shred and compost beech leaves which otherwise last for years intact.
