Sore point.

Two of the advocates of LC couldn't get the seed this year, could we, JayG?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

A bad time to mention that mine are chitting nicely? I ordered mine in October when i noticed the JBA stock was looking lower than the rest of the varieties.

I appreciate you have to order via the post in your situation, but with nearly 100 varieties to chose from on my door step, I stuck to my principles! Epicure it is this year.

Sad, but true (not so much because there are no Lady Christl locally and that I refuse to pay for getting them via mail order but because I'm having to agree with DD - again!)

2011:   LC = Lost Cause,  PJ  = Perfect Joy (I hope!)  :)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

I'm growing International Kidney again.  The problems I had with them weren't any different to the problems I have with any new potatoes - the skins come off when I boil them and they go mushy.  But like I say, that happens with all of them, Pentland Javelin included.  I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong - either growing or cooking.  I don't think I feed them enough.  I've never yet managed to grow a 'waxy' potato, even when it's a 'waxy' variety!

I'm trying Rocket as well.  I've not grown them before and they're meant to be quick, so I thought I'd give them a whirl.

Not tried it myself, but I have read of people storing them for a day or two, after digging them up, before cooking them - and saying that improved the cooking.  Might be worth a try?

Also try steaming them instead of pouring the flavour down the sink.

Hahahaha! Yes, potatoes DO taste much better when they're steamed, rather than boiled.

I was told once that you can improve the flavour and texture of spuds by how you grow them, but I'm not sure I believe it.
