Hi , I bought my seed potatoes on saturday last, i bought Desiree again for my mains, Maris Peer as 2nd earlies and by mistake bought Charlotte thinking they were 1st earlies. My question is could i use the Charlottes as my 1st earlies knowing i've bought 2nd earlies / Last year i grew Pentland Javelin as my first but could'nt get any on Saturday . Thanks for any advice .

If you plant them as 'earlies' you may find that you have to wait a few more weeks before there are any spuds worth eating.
That's why they are 2nds, because they come 2nd in the spud race

Charlottes are a beautiful potato for salads and most other purposes but will be about 2 to 3 weeks behind first earlies. Will you have eaten all your first earlies in 3 weeks ??.
Can you swap a few charlotte seed for something earlier or start in a tub in the greenhouse or in a polytunnel and get ahead that way

We did Charlottes last year, good crop and well liked on the table.  Worth finding space for if you can.

Thanks for the advice , i'll grow half my seconds of Charlottes and half of Maris Peer, then try and get some Pentland Javelin (my favourite firsts ) or Red Duke of York. Got Desiree for my mains. thanks again.
