Yes, I'm trying some for the first time this year. I'm doing Mangetout Carouby De Muasanne, Pea Alderman and Pea Sugar Snap. That's one of each type, and all grow to 5' or 6'.

We tried Alderman for the first time last year.

The area we grew them in was in slight shade but even so we were extrememly pleased with the crop result.
Unless otherwise stated it can be assumed ALL posts are by Pa Snip

i grew alderman last year and did not get the result i hoped for, i found that they did not grow up the canes like runner beans which is waht i was hoping for, i kept having to tie them in to stop them falling off the canes, going to go back to smaller ones this year.

That's interesting.  I just bought some T&M Pea Alderman and I've never grown them before so I'm looking forward to seeing how they grow.

Our site's very windy, so we have to shelter the seedlings when they're planted out until they get going.  I'd like to grow peas up a wigwam, so Alderman sounds like a good choice.

Where's pea-god DD when you need him?  :nowink:

Surely peas don't climb in the same way that runner beans do (that's not to say there are no tall varieties but they hold themselves up using tendrils rather than winding themselves round the support.)

I would have thought that peas would need some help climbing bean poles, which is why twiggy sticks or pea netting is often used instead?
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

they do need help climbing bean poles, i thought because they grow 6ft tall that they would climb up a wigwam, but they didn't, oh well we live an learn

here's a pic of some of DD's tall peas, which didn't climb and had to be tied up!

Not a hope of them growing just up canes I'm afraid.

We made cane wigwams and wrapped them in pea netting

No - mustn't look - already got 10 varieties, not counting the mange tout to sow.

Damnit. Must have some!
