Spud Order for our Site (Interesting link to our Poll)
« on: January 22, 2011, 11:25 »
At our site we have been collating spud orders and we are going to the Gordale Potato weekend next Saturday to buy a bulk order.

Here is our combined order which includes 1st and 2nd Earlies, Salad Spuds and Maincrop.
I take note that Desiree are the most popular spud which mirrors the spud poll on here that we had a month or two ago. Also if I remember correctly our most popular spuds in the poll are also high on the list for orders from our plotters, as far as I am aware I am the only  one on our site to post on here so they won't have used our poll.

All weights are in Kilos.

I went down there with the potatoes myself and it was a great day out last year.

Once you get there and see the other varieties that are there you will end up buying more. :D

On the original list provided by Gordale there were about 100 variety's but as a society we couldn't list them all because it would have been to much trouble, so we whittled the list down to about 20 choices which is a vast improvement on our previous bulk supplier who offered us , Romano, Ulster Prince, Rocket, Wilja and Valor.

I thought we could have offered more than the 20 variety's we did, but the people who collated the orders wanted to keep it to no more than 20 which I can understand.

The Jersey Royals / International Kidney have been ordered by a few plotters in the hope that they can achieve the Jersey taste that we get in the shops late May time. But from what I know its not just about the variety of spud its also the soil and climate they are grown in.

I'm really, really annoyed. I just found out the annual Potato Day in Swindon was today, and I missed it  >:(

It would be interesting to see what the most popular spuds are as far as Iain is concerned.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
