I've got the potatoes sorted :)

I've not heard back from the company (Kings seeds) I get the garlic from.  Fingers Crossed.

My order came from JBA yesterday and out of 10kg of seed potatoes there were 3 bad uns. That's not something I'm going to complain about.

When you live in the middle of nowhere mail order is often the only option, especially if you want varieties that are a bit out of the ordinary.

I sometimes forget how lucky i am having a well stocked allotment shop on the doorstep and a wilko's, not to mention a Wyevale centre. Spoilt for choice really :D

I would normally buy my pots from wills but decided I wanted to grow heritage varieties this year and opted for salad blue, burgundy red and shetland black.  Along with some plain old jersey royal.

Where, may I ask, did you get Jersey Royals from?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

They can only be Jersey Royals if grown in Jersey

Hmm... I don't buy into this EU nonsense myself!

If a potato seed is grown in jersey, shipped to me and I grow it it is still the same Potato.  As I am not selling it I need not be concerned the the EUs protected designation of origin nonsense.

It may still be the same variety, but irrespective of the EU rules, the taste tests for the variety when grown outside of Jersey are invariably poor.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

It is the specific growing conditions n Jersey (like seaweed in the soil etc) whihc guves Jerseys their unique flavoour.  Interntional kidney will not taste like a Jersy unless it is grown in Jersey (unfortunately :( )

I've lost count of how many times I've posted this link!

http://www.thisisjersey.com/community/history-heritage/vraic/

And that is why International Kidney are NOT Jersey Royals.
