Chicken show
« on: January 18, 2011, 10:25 »
We went to a chicken show just before Christmas..... there were some lovely birds there, all very expensive   We took Juan the neighbour with us, he wanted to buy a pair of bantams, boy were they tiny birds..... he said he could keep them in a bird cage in the garage............... we told him not to be so silly, they needed a garden not a garage and anyway, Mercedes his sister would kill us if we let him buy hens, especially tiny  bantams
The birds we saw were:
Conchinchina
Franciscana negra
>Seabright, lemon
Seabright dorade
Brahma
Plymouth rock
Java negra
Barbuda Ambers
Milflores
Pekin
Kriell
Old English
Fenis Plate
Andaluza
wyndacotte
wyndadotte
Menorca
Utrerana
Prat
Surena Azul (looked like our white leghorns)
Surena Franciscana (looked like our cockerel Colin)
Some of the pairs (breeding pair) were over 250€  I didn´t buy any

Hi Pamela, I've only been to one local agricultural show over here and ended up coming back with two aracuana, a maran and a silkie/sussex - the most expensive of the lot was £16 for the silkie/sussex  These were from local breeders who weren't to interested in showing them though. The others would be expensive since there supposed to be the 'elite' of there breed conforming to all breed standards - which is where the money will be made. I would like to give showing a bird a go at some point but I've never really had chance. Maybe in the future some time though.

Hubbys old flat mate once showed his hens and some eggs at a show on Anglesey..... he got first prize for his eggs.......... he was chuffed.............. then someone (disgruntled maybe?) stole the rosette :(  Luckily I had taken a photo of the eggs before the robbery!
I would have loved to buy some of the hens we saw at the local shgow here, could you imagin paying 250€ and then the hen died
I wonder if they came with a guarantee?  I stupidly forgot my camera, I tried taking photos with my mobile but they were no good.
There was even a good show of fancy pigeons.
