What I do is go through my seed packets, and put them on my calendar on the computer, with a reminder that pops up to start them off.

I am so glad someone else does that, my husband thinks i am a complete geek doing it this way but i thought it was rather ingenious!

Not even thought about seeds as the thaw has only just started but the ground underneath is frozen beyond even getting a spade into it.

If we are lucky it will thaw up here before March.

I'd love to start sowing stuff now but we still have a fair bit of snow on the ground that doesn't seem to want to melt  :(

Just popped a few Kelsae onions in. Don't expect great results, but I've never had any success from onion seed and my warped way of thinking says that if I grow one that should be big, I may get some medium sized ones.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Lucky for me... my kelsae onion seeds arrived just in time for me to sow them, id thought they'd never come, so when they did i sowed them on the day (Christmas eve) 30 in two heated propagators  :) pic below....

i also sowed another 24 in a unheated propagator but with an extra layer using bubblewrap to try and keep it warm

Mine are in a plastic bag in the bedroom.

I've managed nearly 50 years without heated propagators and don't intend starting now! ;)

Have sowed a number of Leek seeds in a 4" deep trough planter in B&Q peat free compost; covered in a bin liner in a spare room until germination.

My plan is to bring them into a cold frame in a sheltered part of my home garden to bring on slowly.

I suppose my main concern apart from cold and available light is whether the compost will run out of nutrients first. I will transplant if that starts to happen.

The experiment is to see if sowing leeks very early will get by that problem of them taking ages to put on weight before planting out, or will the March sowings just catch up.

That will be a very interesting trial Zippy.  Please let us know how the two different treatments affect the outcome.
